The District of Columbia Courts, comprised of the Court of
Appeals, Superior Court, and the Court System constitute the
Judicial
Branch of the District of Columbia. The District of Columbia
Court of
Appeals is the highest court of the District of Columbia.
The Superior
Court of the District of Columbia is the court of general
jurisdiction
over virtually all local legal matters, including criminal, civil,
family, probate, tax and traffic. The administrative support functions
comprise the Court System.
The goals of the District of Columbia Courts are to provide fair, swift,
and accessible justice; enhance public safety; and promote trust and
confidence in the justice system.
