The Senior Construction Supervisor reports to the Construction Superintendent and is responsible for the management, organization and supervision of the fieldwork performed by Habitat for Humanity of Omaha (HFHO) construction staff, subcontractors, and volunteers on their assigned projects. The principal objective of the position is to lead and teach construction staff and volunteers through the safe and efficient construction of quality, residential homes. 

Requirements

Project Organization and Administration: 

  • Lead and manage two or more construction sites as needed. 
  • Manage each project to its assigned schedule and budget.
  • Prepare two-week, forward-looking schedules and review projections with Construction Superintendent and Construction Project Manager. 
  • Analyze blueprints and other build documents for each project and facilitate pre-build meetings with assigned construction staff to identify all building requirements and develop optimal construction plan.
  • Determine appropriate material requirements from project building blueprints and coordinate ordering and delivery with Procurement so all necessary materials and equipment are onsite prior to start of each phase of building process. 
  • Confirm all ordered materials, tools and equipment are correct when delivered to appropriate site.
  • Inform Construction Superintendent and Construction Project Manager of any conditions that affect build schedule. 
  • Lead each project in conformance with established project plan and organize work for optimum utilization of construction staff, volunteers, equipment, material and supplies. 
  • Work with Construction Superintendent, Construction Project Manager, construction staff and subcontractors to resolve onsite challenges, issues and delays. 
  • Coordinate required inspections with local city inspectors.
  • Train, develop and mentor construction staff on HFHO construction processes and procedures. 
  • Oversee and monitor the performance of all direct reports, volunteers and subcontractors. 
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of direct reports and conduct periodic performance reviews. 
  • Maintain a positive team atmosphere and culture. 
  • Maintain good communication and relationships with all HFHO staff, departments, subcontractors, volunteers and partners. 

 

Safety: 

  • Communicate and demonstrate project safety standards in accordance with HFHO policies and procedures and OSHA requirements. 
  • Ensure construction staff has completed necessary training to administer first aid and CPR.
  • Teach construction staff the steps to manage a safe work environment and to take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of other staff members, volunteers, subcontractors and visitors.
  • Provide construction staff with training to take appropriate action in event of an onsite accident or injury and complete all documentation. 

 

Quality: 

  • Oversee the construction of each assigned project in accordance with HFHO plans, specifications, current edition of the IRC and accepted industry standards. 
  • Maintain and protect all tools, equipment, and materials while on the jobsite. 
  • Work with HFHO staff to ensure all required paperwork and daily logs are completed in a timely and accurate manner. 
  • Organize site logistics and maintain a clean worksite. 
  • Build and improve HFHO image with subcontractors, vendors, homeowners, and the public. 
  • Recommend changes to enhance the quality of each project, reduce operating and maintenance costs, and improve scheduled completion dates. 
  • Practice good stewardship with HFHO resources including material usage and proper tool/truck maintenance. 
  • Optimize construction costs thru efficient and effective use of staff, materials, tools, subcontractors and volunteers.  
  • Conduct ongoing training to educate HFHO construction staff of new and updated building methods and standards, and new code requirements. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of a high school degree, college degree in construction management, or similar work experience is required. 
  • 3 years experience as a construction supervisor. 
  • 3-5 years residential construction experience. 
  • Ability to teach others on a regular, repeated basis. 
  • Demonstrated skill in minimum 2 residential construction categories. (Framing, detail finish, siding, drywall, etc.). 
  • Must agree to complete OSHA 30 training and achieve certification within six months of employment start date.
  • Must agree to complete HFHI Competent Person training modules within six months of employment start date and recertify annually.

  • Computer literacy. 
  • Valid drivers license and excellent driving record.

Physical demands: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must use their hands to feel and maneuver objects, tools, or controls. They must reach with hands and arms, climb or balance themselves, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They must be able to talk and hear. 

 

The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. Vision requirements are that the employee must see well, either naturally or with correction, and must have good peripheral vision. The employee must be able to hear well, either naturally or with correction. 

 

 Work environment: 

The employee will predominantly be working outside. There is frequent exposure to wet, hot, cold, and /or humid conditions. The employee must be comfortable safely climbing a ladder to a second level height. The employee frequently works near heavy machinery, power tools and saws. At times, the noise level may be very loud. The worksite terrain may be rough and uneven. The employee will need to be adaptable and adjust work assignments depending on the number of volunteers that arrive.
