Job Summary
Serves patients by greeting and helping them, scheduling appointments, and maintaining records and accounts. Welcomes patients and visitors in person or on the telephone, and answering or referring inquiries.
Job Functions
- Greets and receive patients and visitors.
- Completes patient check-in process in electronic health records system accurately.
- Answers the telephone and responds to patient requests or directs caller to the appropriate person.
- Collects co-pays and self-pay balances from patients and documents transactions accurately.
- Schedules appointments via the telephone or in the office according to protocol.
- Registers patients by entering the required demographic and insurance information accurately.
- Copies insurance cards and photo IDs collected from patient according to protocol.
- Pulls medical records and compiles documents for next day appointments.
- Files medical records per clinic protocol.
- Reschedules appointments as directed.
- Alert practice manager of any issue including maintenance, workflow, etc.
- Adheres to policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and other State and Federal regulatory requirements.
- Cross train to other appropriate positions as needed to ensure clinic coverage.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Able to multi-task in a fast paced work setting while paying attention to details.
- Proficient in keyboarding and windows based software.
- Effectively Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner
- Manages difficult or emotional patient situations.
- Adapts to changes in the work place and competing priorities.
- Active team player.
- Communicates clearly and concisely with patients and coworkers.
- Competent in using office machines such as copiers, printers, faxes, calculators, and credit card machines.
- Ability to work remotely in scenarios including but not limited to inclement weather.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years experience in a customer service position, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Proficient data entry while providing quality customer service.
- Basic understanding of the billing and insurance industry.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
Intermittent and/or frequent physical activity including walking, sitting, standing, reaching, bending and lifting up to 25 pounds.
